Live from Park City: Blink Leads the Conversation on Myopia Management

The mountains of Park City, Utah, provided a breathtaking backdrop for a serious conversation last week at Eyecelerator. Our very own Co-Founder, Dr. Matthew Rickard, took the stage for the panel 'Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door,' a strategic deep dive into the nascent market for myopia control technologies.

Moderated by Dr. Jonathan Li of UCSF, the panel highlighted a sobering statistic: half the world’s population is on track to be myopic by 2050. While pharmaceutical and optical interventions (like drops and specialty lenses) are crucial, the panel agreed that lifestyle modification—more outdoor time, less screen time—is the first line of defense. The problem? Measuring it.

During the discussion, Dr. Rickard highlighted the 'data gap' that Blink Frames are designed to fill. 'It basically started with parent surveys,' Dr. Rickard explained to the audience. 'But unfortunately... the parent questionnaires are just not reliable.' By replacing guesswork with precise, sensor-driven tracking, Blink Frames offer clinicians the first objective tool to monitor compliance with these lifestyle prescriptions.

The response from the room was electric, especially regarding our 'low friction' approach to integrating with optometry practices. By gamifying the experience for kids—offering digital prizes for meeting outdoor time goals—we are not just monitoring behavior; we are actively helping to change it. As the industry moves toward a multimodal approach, Blink is proud to be the technology layer that ties it all together.
